SHILLONG, Aug 23: The Synjuk Ki Seng Samla Shnong (SSSS), an NGO consisting of different village youth organizations in the State, extended support to the people of Langpih in their fight against the Nepali community of Asom, who occupied the territory of Meghalaya. SSSS, on its visit to the disputed area of Langpih along the Meghalaya-Asom border on August 21, encouraged the people of Langpih in their struggle to reclaim their territory from the Nepalis who occupied the area.
The dispute between the Nepalis and the Khasis in the area has crippled the agricultural activities of the Khasis and left them in constant fear of being evicted from their ancestral land. On their visit, the people of Langpih have expressed fear of the present situation.
At a meeting conducted by the village elders of Langpih held on August 21, the leaders of the NGO have urged their own people not to resort to violence, but try to resolve the matter by presenting documents and papers regarding their land. The leaders of the organization, including the executive member of the central body E Marbaniang, organizing secretary of central zone T Marwein, and the chairman of the central zone V Buhphang have also advised the village elders to initiate a unit of NGO in the village so that the unit takes care of any problem.
