Cry for appointment of local candidates

SHILLONG, Aug 23: Two more organizations — Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) and Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) — have come up and joined the North Khasi Hills Unit of Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), when it came to know that the local candidates appeared in the examination of Indian Central Agriculture University (ICAU) are only 194 whereas the number of candidates from Manipur is 600.

KSU had disrupted the examination held from August 19 to 21 and did not allow outside candidates to appear in the examination, demanding 100 per cent reservation for local candidates. The examination is for the appointment of staff (Grade C & D) in Central Agriculture University held at ICAR.

However, on August 22, the leaders of these three organizations, including the president RBYF BB Makdoh, president FKJGP EG Kharbani, president KSU North Khasi Hills Unit D Sumer and general secretary KSU Central Body Hamlet Dohling met the Dean and authorities of the Indian Central Agricultural University (ICAU) to discuss the matter and demanded authority for first preference to the local candidates in the required post.

Speaking to the newsmen, Hamlet Dohling said that the meeting with the Dean and the authority of ICAU was successful as they were assured of appointing local candidates of the State.

Dohling said, “The Dean and the authority of ICAU have assured them that out of 63 candidates who are eligible for the personal interview for the different posts in Grade C and D, 48 of them are local candidates”.

Dohling added that the organizations would go on with their demand until the results were out. THE SENTINEL
