Myanmar’s assurance to India on terror front

NEW DELHI, Dec 16: Myanmar assured India of not allowing the use its land for anti-India activities, especially in the Northeast, by terrorists.  In a press conference, Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao today said this assurance was given to External Affairs Minister SM Krishna by Myanmar Government during his recent visit to the neighbouring country. Krishna had visited Myanmar on the December 9.

Replying to a question, Rao said:  “We have no confirmation about the whereabouts of ULFA ‘c-in-c’ Paresh Baruah in Myanmar.”  Quoting sources, Rao said, Baruah is hiding in Myanmar’s Kachin area bordering China, and is under the grip of anti-India forces like Pakistan’s ISI. She later said Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is likely to visit to India in the mid of January next year. THE SENTINEL
