‘Make 1966 as base year for detection of foreigners’

SIVASAGAR, Dec 4: The Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha, an umbrella organization of different indigenous tribes and races of the State, has demanded 1966 as the base year for identification of foreigners in the State instead of 1971 as proposed by the Government. It has also demanded to the Government for inclusion of 1966 as the base year in preparing the National Registrar of Citizens (NRC).

In a memorandum addressed to Union Home Minister, the organization has urged the Government to make necessary provisions to exclude the names of the persons from the updated NRC, whose names were not included in the 1966 voters list.

A delegate of the organization today met Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner NM Hussain and handed over the memorandum addressed to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram. Copies of the memorandum were also addressed to the Prime Minister and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. THE SENTINEL
