Controversy over NSUI president’s age

GUWAHATI, Sept 10: Assam State NSUI president Dr Jaiprakash Das finds himself in the middle of a controversy. He has been alleged of submitting false age certificates to build his political career.
According to NSUI rules, a person must be below 27 years of age to be a NSUI member. A section of NSUI secretaries have alleged that in 2008, Dr Das had submitted an age certificate to Rahul Gandhi where his year of birth was 1982. According to them, the age certificate he had submitted was false because as per Dr Das’s HSLC certificate, his date of birth is March 1, 1978. Dr Das had passed his HSLC examination in 1994. Thus when he became NSUI member his age was 30, which is clearly against the rules of the organization, alleged the NSUI secretaries. They have reportedly sent the HSLC certificate to Rahul Gandhi.
Dr Das has however refuted these charges. He has termed it as a “political conspiracy” to malign his image. THE SENTINEL
