SILCHAR, Dec 4: A 27-year-old youth died and at least 15 people were injured when the bus they were in turned turtle on the Jalalpur-Silchar Road NH-44 in Katigorah today. The youth who died is yet to be identified.
Five of the injured have been shifted to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital in critical condition and the remaining eight passengers were admitted to Kalain PHC.
The incident took place when the speeding ill-fated deluxe bus went out of control and the driver could not prevent the bus from capsizing. Sources said the NH-44, off late, has turned into a night mare for passengers for the last one year. Even after repeated pleas and demands from various quarters, the authorities concerned have failed to do anything for reasons best known to them. Algapur MLA Rahul Roy had earlier threatened to start a road blockade but the agitation was called off after BRTF officials on Monday inspected the road and promised immediate construction of the road.
