KOKRAJHAR, Dec 8: BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary assured the BPF women’s wing that the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) would reserve more seats for women in the forthcoming BTC elections to be held next year besides giving preference in other sectors also in the council. Mohilary while attending the meeting of the BPF women’s wing held at the party office at Kokrajhar recently said his council and the BPF respect the rights of the women.
Later, talking to the mediapersons, BPF women’s wing secretary Nirupama Borgoyary said that Mohilary assured the women’s wing of reserving at least three seats for women in the ensuing BTC elections. Expressing her gratitude, Borgoyary said the women’s wing has several problems.
The meeting which was chaired by the president of the wing and nominated BTC Member Jamuna Rani Brahma was also attended by the president and secretaries and Executive Members of four BTC districts.
It may be mentioned that out of 40 BTC constituencies, there is only one woman representative and of six nominated members, there is one woman member. In the 46-member council, there are only two women in it. THE SENTINEL
