IIM Shillong Golf Cup Tournament from December 5

SHILLONG, Nov 2: After the maiden venture of the Golf Tournament in April last year, the IIM Shillong is back with ‘Season 2’ of its flagship event, ‘IIM Shillong Golf Cup’ on December 5 and 6. “The first golf tournament organized by any B School in India, this unparalleled concept aims at connecting corporate houses and academia. An entirely student-driven initiative, the tournament aims to create a platform wherein the budding managers will draw the battle lines against corporate leaders in the beautiful and serene Shillong Golf Club”, said Ashoke Dutta, Director of Shillong IIM.

The IIM Shillong Golf Cup that took place on April 18 and 19 last year, saw the participation of 120 golfers. In addition to the golf tourney, the IIM Shillong will be organizing a golf workshop titled ‘Green Jacket’ for B School students. “A certification workshop in golf, it takes ahead the goal of promoting the sport among budding managers at B Schools”, said Lt Col Mathew of the IIM. Eminent persons from public service, and decision-makers from International and National business groups will be taking part in the tournament along with faculty, alumni and students of premier B Schools. “The culture of golf has not penetrated Indian B Schools much, and IIM Shillong has taken the lead and responsibility to promote golf among executives-to-be”, Prof Dutta stated. The IIM Golf Tourney is also aimed at furthering the careers of the aspiring managers. “It will not only help the Shillong IIM stand out from the other IIMs in the country, but would also help in the placement process for the students as they would come in direct contact with corporate houses”, says Lt Col (retd) Mathew Thomas, Chief Administration Officer of Shillong IIM.
