Scribes sore at behaviour of BCCI official

DIBRUGARH, NOV 11: There was widespread resentment among the journalists here after they were subjected to misbehaviour when they went to attend a press meet called by the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) and Dibrugarh District Sports Association (DDSA) at a local hotel here today.

The press meet was called to announce the names of the players of the East Zone Women’s Cricket team. The journalists, who were asked to sit in the conference hall, were asked to leave the room by the secretary of ACA, Bikash Barua, citing the need to make the final selection of the players. They were again subjected to misbehaviour by the BCCI match referee Baldev Singh Gosain, who was in an inebriated condition. The angry journalists later lodged their protest before Bikash Barua and he completed his duty saying that action would be taken against the said match referee.

Meanwhile, there has been condemnation at the incident. The Advisor to the All Assam Journalists’ Association (AAJA) Iqbal Ahmed called it unfortunate. He said that, the journalists were insulted by a BCCI official when the ACA general secretary was present in the same hotel. Ahmed questioned the BCCI’s logic of appointing such a person like Gosain as the match referee for a women’s event. The Dibrugarh Press Club and Greater Dibrugarh Press Club also condemned the incident and demanded action against Gosain.  Meanwhile, Jhulan Goswami will lead the East Zone team while Devika Sathe will be his deputy. The other members of the team are– Ananya Mitra, Kadambini Mohakud, Rituparna Roy, Seema Singh, Reema Chakraborty, Neetu Singh, Archana Das, Subhalaxmi, Ankita Das, Madhusmita Behera, Priyanka Sahoo, Neha Majhi and Niyati Lokur. Anju Jain will be the coach. THE SENTINEL
