IMPHAL, Aug 31 – Twenty- one year-old Khangembam Romila of Mongshangei locality in Manipur’s Imphal West district was crowned Manipur Pineapple Queen, 2009 at a beauty pageant held at Khousabung village in Churachandpur district on Friday night.
Pebam Rabina,18 of Ningomthong also from Imphal West has been declared the first runner-up while Lily Lamhoichong Haokip, 20 of Zalenmun village, Churachandpur was adjudged the second runner-up defeating 15 other striking damsels who had vied for the title.
The new Pineapple Queen, a BSc student, walked home richer by Rs 20,000 while the first and second runners-up were awarded Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.
Other subtitle winners were Monica Irom (beautiful hair), Thiyam Bidyaluxmi (beautiful smile), Maikam Anjali (beautiful eye), Lily Lamhoichong (Miss Personality), and Kh Romila (best pineapple promoter).
Friday night’s beauty pageant was held as part of the second edition of the Manipur Pineapple Festival held at Dr Kalam Ground, Bunglon High School campus in Churachandpur district.ASSAM TRIBUNE
